Here’s a bit of patriotic hypocrisy for the Fourth of July, involving the political guru of the Republican Super Patriots, White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove.

Recall the old story where an ambassador came out in public against the White House, and shortly thereafter his wife got fingered in the media as a CIA operative? The wife’s name is Valerie Plame.

In the couple of years since Plame’s cover was blown in the media, speculation has abounded that the fingering was a White House leak to punish her husband. Plame’s cover blown, she was worthless in the field and her career was probably destroyed.

The key question was WHO in the White House committed this apparent treason?

Well, on a TV political talk show on July 2, 2005, a reporter declared that Newsweek will soon turn over documents and emails naming Karl Rove as the source of the leak.

Apparently, Rove has already given testimony to the Grand Jury investigating the leak, in which Rove denied being the source of the leak.

IF IF IF it turns out that Rove was the leak or played an active role in the leak, Rove has at least two major problems: He has revealed the identity of an undercover CIA operative (which is a crime) AND he may have lied to the Grand Jury (which is perjury).

The Republican spinwits like Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, etc, like to call Democrats unpatriotic when we refuse to blindly agree to the Republican Party line.

Tell me something: If the chief Republican powerbroker and spinmeister committed in effect treason, isn’t that a pretty powerful form of unpatriot behavior, as well as a bit of hypocrisy?

I’d be suprised in Rove turns out to be the probvable leak. He’s too smart for that.

Reports Reveal Karl Rove Named in Matt Cooper Documents

“I know I’m going to get pulled into the grand jury for saying this but the source of…for Matt Cooper was Karl Rove, and that will be revealed in this document dump that Time magazine’s going to do with the grand jury.”

Other McLaughlin Group panelists then joined in discussing whether, if true, this would suggest a perjury rap for Rove, if he told the grand jury he did not leak to Cooper.

Besides his career at a TV journalist, O’Donnell has served as a producer and writer for the series “The West Wing.”

According to published reports, Patrick Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor in the case, has interviewed President Bush and Vice President Cheney and called Karl Rove, among others, to testify before the grand jury.

“The breadth of Fitzgerald’s inquiry has led to speculation that it has evolved into an investigation of a conspiracy to leak Plame’s identity,” the Chicago Tribune observed on Friday, “or of an attempt to cover up White House involvement in the leak.”
