TIM SAYS: This FAIR article details one example of how the silly three minute “stories” on TV news distort reality and do a huge disservice to the public.

And by being so superficial, TV news becomes propaganda. In this instance, TV news became right wing propaganda, assisting the Right in its push for affirmative action on college campuses and in professorships.

I SAY: If you live a right wing agenda life, and think and write a right wing agenda life, you are probably not an academic person at all, except an academic that teaches right wing things.

Professors in secular subjects think critically, and promote critical thinking among their students.

Critical thinking leads to growth and new learning.

But the right wingers want the party line taught. That’s the same as religion, not academics. Professors must be critical thinkers, that’s what makes them professors rather than instructors.

If our schools teach the party line, and our professors stop being active skeptics, then we have the equivalent of the old Soviet Union.

The right wing seems to want schools to install “professors” who have an agenda of actively promoting right wing ideology. At least, that’s my take. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.
