In the wake of the revelation that FBI Assistant Director Mark Felt was “Deep Throat”, the right wing media are actively engaged in re-spinning the Watergate saga and the resignation of Richard Nixon.

History has already passed near-unanimous judgment that President Nixon committed crimes for which he was pardoned by President Ford.

Moreover, history has noted the indisputable facts that a large number of Nixon’s closest associates and advisors actually were convicted in court of crimes and served prison time, including radio spinwit G. Gordon Liddy

The charges were typically obstruction of justice for lying or destroying evidence, or related to burglary and cover-up.

But the right wing forgives the Nixon Administration for its criminality, just as Democrats forgive Clinton for lying about his affair. It’s just that Clinton’s situation did not rise to the level of the criminality of Nixon’s.

I will be watching for interesting links to stories capturing the historical revisionism, as the Right Wing tries to convince people that crimes were not crimes and that Nixon’s people were unfairly treated by history.

In the first installment, we see how the Media Research Center has thoroughly ignored the proven criminal corruption of Nixon’s men by referring to Watergate as taking down a Republican president for political gain and profit.

In nearly every journalism school in America, students are taught the legend of Watergate, of how heroic reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein used the heroic anonymous source “Deep Throat” to defend the constitutional order. This legend, peddled commercially as the book and movie deals that produced All The President’s Men, is almost never taught as how to take down a Republican President for political gain and personal profit.
