Remember the Newsweek story about the Koran being flushed down the toilet bowl? The right wing alternative spin universe kicked into high gear, claiming that Newsweek “retracted” the story. I actually READ the Newsweek editor’s statement, and it did not retract the story - it merely backed away from a particular detail. Newsweek did not admit it was wrong when it reported that the Koran got flushed down the toilet as a torture tactic. Please review my article from a few days ago, Newsweek and the Koran Toilet Story - No Retraction after all Well, turns out that the FBI had reported the Koran flushing story almost 3 years ago. The report was contained in documents obtained by the ACLU. Read about it here: The fine folks over at DailyKOS have a discussion thread about it, excerpted below. Let’s see how the spinwits handle this.

Evan Thomas and Michael Isikoff of Newsweek call it a “retracted story” in this weeks issue. I guess they’re wrong and you’re right.

“Personally, he has nothing against the United States. The guards in the detention facility do not treat him well. Their behavior is bad. About five months ago, the guards beat the detainees. They flushed a Koran in the toilet,” the FBI agent wrote.
Kos fails to mention that this is “a summary of statements made days earlier by a detainee”, and would like for the reader to believe that the FBI agent is stating facts.
Who are the spinwits?
A person being detained at Gitmo claims he has nothing against the U.S. Whether he’s a terrorist or wrongfully detained, this is a lie. I suggest putting that into the context of the rest of his claims.
BTW: For a look into Newsweek’s bias, see this article.

DailyKOS, Media Matters, Buzzflash, etc…These aren’t creditable “news” sources. This is just another fine example of left-wingers trying to discredit right-wingers by attempting to pass off opinions as facts.
I’m sure you can go to Rush Limbaugh and read about what the left-wingers are doing wrong as well. Although, remember where the information is coming from before accepting it.
In either case these people are in business to support their views to bring in their crowds. It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. Many times it’s not or it’s a bastardized version of it.
Left or right, it’s all the same.
