Soft tissue found in T-rex fossil — and comments about creationism
Posted in Category: Science vs Religion

70 Million year old fossilized dinosaur SOFT TISSUE is found! See link and excerpt from news article below

That’s exciting, because all other fossilized material from dinosaurs has been bone.

The soft tissue fossil may reveal blood vessel details, and possibly containsome fragments of proteins. Scientists will fit this new data into the existing database and see what they might be able to deduce about the life of dinosaurs.

Evolutionists will have new fodder for improving their theories. Creationists will have a new challenge in store for them in trying to debunk the new findings.

Key difference between “religious science” and a “secular science”:

Secular Scientists reach firm conclusions based on actual empirical evidence verifiable by other skeptical scientists. In real science, if a verifiable empirical fact contradicts a theory, the theory is deemed to be incomplete or wrong. A sound scientific theory must account for all verifiable empirical facts.

Religious Scientists follow the exact opposite of real scientific inquiry. Religious Scientists start with a firm conclusion (ex: the Bible is inerrent on the 6,000 year age of the earth) and then look for empirical evidence that can somehow be argued to support the firm conclusion, and they reject any empirical evidence that contradicts the firm conclusion.

Religious Scientists’ philosophy is that the firm conclusion cannot be wrong, and cannot be modified - the apparent facts must be wrongly interpretted. See How can we see distant stars in a young universe?”> for the philosophy that “The basic biblical framework is non-negotiable, as opposed to the changing views and models of fallible people seeking to understand the data within that framework (evolutionists also often change their ideas on exactly how things have made themselves, but never whether they did).”

Some Secular Scientific concepts are SO VERY WELL CONFIRMED that they are accepted as truth, almost like a religious concept. EXCEPT THAT Secular Scientists will ABANDON or MODIFY such “truths” the INSTANT contrary credible evidence is found and verified. For example, the special and general theories of relativity, and evolution through natural selection - those are theories that are so well confirmed they have come to be accepted as essentially fundamental truths of nature. Nonetheless, those theories would come crashing down in the face of contrary credible verifiable evidence.

Religous Scientists will NOT reject or modify their religious truths, no matter how much contrary credible verifiable evidence exists.

So Secular Science and Religious Science are two very different things.

CREATIONISM AND EVOLUTION CAN HARMONIZE

Young Earth Creationists believe that the world is something like 6,000 years old. Outside of the Biblical account of creation, no credible evidence exists to support this 6,000 year religious belief. Young Earth Creationists believe dinosaurs and humans co-existed. Such believers probably cannot reach any common ground with modern science. Every facet of science is opposed to the Young Earthers. Even mathematics is against them, because mathematical truths have led us to conclude that the universe is so very old.

But there is another faction of creationism, a middle of the road type of creationism. This Moderate Creationism acknowledges that secular science has accumulated real credible evidence that the earth (and the cosmos) is not just 6,000 years old, but billions of years old. The Moderate Creationists are not blinded to science. They want to harmonize science with their religious views. And it is not too hard to perform the harmonization, on the surface at least: God created the cosmos and the Earth, and His method of populating the earth was evolution through natural selection.

This last form of creationism is completely at harmony with science. Even the most jaded theoretical physicist will probably acknowledge that the “moment of creation” of the universe is an unknown singularity, in that we will likely never truly know how it happened.

And in the absence of contrary scientific proof, the “moment of creation” could have been at the Hand of God for all we know.

CNN.com - Soft tissue found in T-rex fossil - Mar 24, 2005: “WASHINGTON (AP) — For more than a century, the study of dinosaurs has been limited to fossilized bones. Now, researchers have recovered 70-million-year-old soft tissue, including what may be blood vessels and cells, from a Tyrannosaurus rex.

If scientists can isolate proteins from the material, they may be able to learn new details of how dinosaurs lived, said lead researcher Mary Higby Schweitzer of North Carolina State University.

‘We’re doing a lot of stuff in the lab right now that looks promising,’ she said in a telephone interview.

It was recovered dinosaur DNA — the blueprint for life — that was featured in the fictional recreation of the ancient animals in the book and film ‘Jurassic Park.’ Although that was science fiction, Schweitzer said she was not sure if scientists would be able to isolate dinosaur DNA fragments from the fossilized materials.”

    Thanks Tim.
I can always count on you for a good laugh. The “don’t be confused” crack really had me doubled over. I almost peed my pants on this one. Keep up the great work.

    Dear Tim,
Interesting website. I agree science requires empirical proof. But in some fields like geology and paleatology, this is difficult if not impossible. So scientists make assumptions around which they base their theories.Atheists prefer millions/billions of years to give evolution time to work, and creationists are content with a young earth because they don’t need evolution. So one’s view point naturally influences how one handles the evidence. The soft T-Rex tissue is a perfect example. Evolutionists puzzle how soft tissue can survive 70 million years, while creation scientists see it as bone from a relatively recently deceased dino. After all there is plenty of archeological evidence of people having lived with dinosaurs- only they called them dragons. the word Dinosaur was invented in the 1840’s
    Food for thought!

Oops. In reviewing this article briefly in order to reply to the most recent comment, I noticed that I said “soft tissue found” or something like that.

What I should have said is that soft tissue impressions in fossils have been found. MAJOR DIFF!

The process of fossilation takes a long time. It’s rare that skin or feathers would survive long enough to be fossilized. So the skin or feathers must have been protected in some manner before the fossilization started.

This happens with “AMBER”. Amber oozing from trees then traps insects. The amber prevents the soft tissue from turning to dust.

Tars and muds might also be able to do something similar, at least for enough time to harden with the intact impression of the skin or feathers.
