Ignorant Religious mockery of science in Colorado, plus intelligent design in the news
Posted in Category: Theocracy, Science vs Religion

Double Header - Two combined entries related to the Theocrats and Religion vs Science.

FIRST: In Colorado a religious group, seemingly fearful that science threatens their faith by casting logical doubt on their beliefs, led a group of students on an indocrination tour of a science museum. The leaders were observed pointing to exhibits, and declaring that the exhibits were lies.

Below is a columnnist’s take on the tour, from the Denver Post:

Biblical tour masquerades as science

The Earth is 6,000 years old. Noah took dinosaurs on the ark. God “spoke fish into existence.” And, by the way, “evolution gives the platform for racism,” “Hitler was an evolutionist,” and so were Columbine killers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.

You might refer to Saturday’s “biblically correct” tour of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science as Colorado’s scientific conundrum:

How much shall we monkey with this state’s future?

On Thursday at the state Capitol, you heard educators, business leaders and politicians fret over the lousy job Colorado does teaching its children about science.

On Saturday at the nature and science museum, you got a taste of how much worse things can get.

The entire nature and science museum prehistoric exhibit is a lie.

“Is this good science?” Carter asked his latest crew of young indoctrinees.

“Bad, bad, bad,” they shouted.

What is a Ph.D.?” Carter asked his young charges. “For an evolutionist, it means Piled Higher and Deeper.”

SECOND: We’ve all heard that a Federal Court is about to start a trial somehow involving Intelligent Design. The trial has to do with whether it is an unconstitutional establishment of relilgion for a public to push Intelligent Design.

Below is a news article to fill you in.

See my “Science vs. Religion” archives for much more about Intelligent design and evolution.

I agree with the Plaintiff’s in the case, who advocate banishing intelligent design from the classroom.

Intellligent Design is creationism’s new home.

And besides, as I’ve shown in earlier articles, Evolution and God are not incompatible. Astophysicas and God are not incompatible. Quantum physicals and God are not incompatible.

Intelligent design is being pushed as somehow an alternative to evolution. But evolution does not have anything to say about whether a God exists. So why the fuss? The fuss exists because evolution implies an earth older than 6,000 years. A 6,000 year old earth is absolutely incompatible with real science..

Intelligent design faces first big court test - Science - MSNBC.com

A federal judge in Pennsylvania will hear arguments Monday in a lawsuit that both sides say could set the fundamental ground rules for how American students are taught the origins of life for years to come.

At issue is an alternative to the standard theory of evolution called “intelligent design.” Proponents argue that the structure of life on Earth is too complex to have evolved through natural selection, challenging a core principle of the biological theory launched by Charles Darwin’s “The Origin of Species” in 1859. Instead, contend adherents of intelligent design, life is probably the result of intervention by an intelligent agent.

“Intelligent design is simply the most recent version of creationism, which is admittedly a religious concept,” said Alan Leshner, chief executive of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science and publisher of the journal Science. “There is no scientific basis to intelligent design.”
