Quiz: What famous Libertarian Democrat left the Republican Party after voting for Bush1 in 1992, due to the Repub’s fiscal irresponsibility and their bedding down with the Religious Right?[Answer at bottom] This Famous Dem said the following things today, July 31, 2006:
What famous Libertarian Dem said the above?*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** The Answer:The Answer is Markos Moulitsas ZĂșniga (”Kos”) of Daily Kos fame. See this article by Kos about the New Democratic Right for the source of the quotes from above. Kos is quite a bit more conservative than the radio nuts say. I doubt the radio nuts even know anything bout Kos’s philosophy… He’s an influential Dem, and therefore he must be trashed to the ends of the earth … Kos could bring some Republicans around to their senses and help them find new homes as Libertarian Democrats.

With all due respect, Markos is no more a libertarian than George W. Bush is. I’ve read Markos’ treatise on what Libertarian Democrats stand for, and his writing strongly suggests that he does not understand the concept of libertarianism. Any philosophy which advocates more government intervention in either the free market or our private lives cannot in anyway be construed to be libertarian in nature. Markos talks a good talk about keeping the government out of our private lives but doesn’t seem to understand the free market aspect of libertarianism.
A better example of a libertarian democrat would be Terry Michael (see http://www.terrymichael.net)
I am not affilitated with any political party, but my political leanings can best be described as “libertarian-liberal” and can be found at www.centristcoalition.com.
