Military blocking some big liberal websites

Military reportedly blocking Wonkette, AirAmerica, and some blogs that don’t agree with Bush, but allowing Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, and G. Gordon Liddy

For a fairly detailed report of the alleged banning, see:

It’s Not Censorship. The Military Just Really Likes Right-Wing Masturbators, Addicts and Felons - A DailyKos diary

Here’s a close-to first hand report from Wonkette.com, re-printing a letter the site received from a soldier in Iraq, alleging that some dissenting blogs are also being banned by the military. Notice how the comment thread compares the USA under Bush to the way the Chinese government censors the internet ——— that’s why I’ve categorized this post as I did (see above) ——–

(Gee, it would be kinda cool to be banned! If my blog were banned by the military, I’d put a big Seal Of Approval at the top of the page, declaring my blog to be “Certified Important”)

Folks, our fighting boys need your help. Here’s the email we received today from one of them …

Just to let you know, the US Marines have blocked access to “Wonkette” along with numerous other sites such as personal email (i.e. Yahoo, AT&T, Hotmail, etc), blogs that don’t agree with the government point of view, personal websites, and some news organizatons. This has taken effect as of the beginning of February. I have no problem with them blocking porn sites (after all it is a government network), but cutting off access to our email and possibly-not-toeing-the-government-line websites is a bit much.
