RadMod’s Qualifications to Detect Propaganda and Bias and Spin

Here are a few of my media and communication-related bona fides to help you assess any credibility I may have in identifying propaganda and in commenting about the media.

You will see that I have some useful experience in legitimate media and communications.

And you will see that I have a large amount of experience in professional spinning and bullshitting.

As they say, it takes one to know one! And just in case you haven’t seen it on the site yet, the RadMod’s true identity is Attorney Tim Willoughby.

RadMod’s Background in Media and Communications

  • I am currently a member of the vast informal media known as the Internet. I publish a medium-sized information website Tim’s Missouri Employment Law.
  • I publish a political and social issues journal at The Radical Moderate.
  • As a lawyer, I wrote an article for the Journal of the American Bar Association a few years ago on using the internet to develop information to support cases.
  • I have presented a bunch of seminars to lawyers on various legal topics, requiring the production of teaching materials, and then lecturing to large groups, and then weathering the storm of questions to justify my positions and opinions.
  • I wrote news and had a regular column for my college newspaper. In high school, I wrote television productions (news and entertainment) for our school TV station. I also wrote for my high school newspaper.
  • For what it may be worth, I have a bit of a theater background (hey - it’s communications!). Starting in High school, I was active in drama. After high school, I acted in community theater on the east coast while serving in the US Navy.

RadMod’s Background in Propaganda and Spinning and Bullshit

  • Professional Propagandist and Spinner and Bullshitter since 1997, paid daily to distort reality and spin the meaning of writings to advance my clients’ causes.
  • I study the writings of courts and then Spin the meaning of those writings into a hopefully coherent bit of bullshit to persuade a different court to see things my way. Tongue in cheek?
  • I also study the writings of other lawyers, and of lay persons, and Spin the meaning to help my client.
  • As a lawyer, I often write things that I expect other lawyers to interpret and spin. I want to limit their ability to spin and distort my own writings, and so I try to write defensively. But lawyers tend to be very good spinners, and we can spin almost anything.
  • Spin and bullshit are an everyday part of my worklife. I am a paid spinner and propagandist.

As you can see from the above, I wear several different communications hats

  • Sometimes I am a teacher who presents the real facts to educate others.
  • Sometimes I am a reporter.
  • Sometimes I am a professional spinner where I make plausible and justifiable arguments to advance a cause, regardless of what I might truly believe.
  • And sometimes I am an entertainer.
